The Clan’s 2026/27 Season Preview

As the Atlantic mist rolls over the Sportsground—our burgeoning fortress at Dexcom Stadium—there is a genuine wave of positivity surging through the West. For The Clan, this season feels different. There is a quiet, concrete belief in what this squad can achieve as we tackle both the URC and our return to the top tier of European rugby.

The Bedrock: Aki, Hansen, and Prendergast

Our optimism starts with the leaders setting the standard. Bundee Aki remains the heartbeat of our midfield, delivering the raw physicality and big-game steel that defines Connacht rugby. Outside him, Mack Hansen brings the spark—that unpredictable flair capable of opening up any defense in Europe. Crucially, in Cian Prendergast, we have a leader whose relentless engine and work rate in the back row set the tone every single week. Together, they give us a world-class spine.

The Next Generation: Ryan, Bohan, and Gavin

What makes this campaign truly exciting is the quality of young talent forcing their way through:

  • Daniel Ryan: A rapid, lethal threat on the wing whose finishing ability and top-end speed add serious edge out wide.
  • Billy Bohan: A powerhouse prop anchoring the scrum and doing the brutal dirty work in the tight-five.
  • Hugh Gavin: An explosive midfield option whose power and line-breaking carrying give us unbelievable depth in the backs.

URC & Champions Cup Ambitions

We aren't just aiming to compete this year; we expect to make serious noise. In the URC, turning Dexcom Stadium into an uncompromising venue for visiting sides—starting with early tests against the Stormers and Leinster—is key to setting up a playoff run.

On the Road with The Clan: Italy, La Rochelle, and Beyond

While home matches are the heartbeat of our season, the traveling supporters—the nomadic heart of The Clan—are locking in some unforgettable away journeys:

  • The Italian Job: A trek to Italy to face Benetton in the URC is always a highlight on the calendar. Sun, food, and loud supporters bringing the green wall to Italian soil make this one of the most anticipated fixtures for traveling fans.
  • January in La Rochelle: The big one every member of The Clan has circled in gold ink. In January, we head to Stade Marcel-Deflandre to take on the mighty La Rochelle in the Champions Cup. Taking on a European titan in one of rugby's most passionate stadiums is what Champions Cup nights are made of, and The Clan cannot wait to travel in force to France.
  • Interpro Derbies: Domestically, short trips to Thomond Park and Ravenhill remain the pinnacle of local rivalry.

To the fans, the families, and the faithful: wear your green with pride and find your voice. The West isn't just awake—it's hungry.
