Me again...

- Like Diom said, stick to the image dimensions. <strong>And don't add any extra images, the app will end up looking awful.</strong>

It's a nice photo of Wilko in the Dail article, but looks bad on the app

Must be a way to get that to work? Can I use a percentage width and height specifier to get it to rescale when the app is looking at it?
Is it presented as a web-page in the app?

Big long tech description follows, feel free to ignore... :)

Yes and no, it's partially a web page. The articles are presented as a headline text box, an image box and then the rest of the article is the article body embedded in a web page.

This is done for a number of reasons, mostly to do with presentation. I want to control the headline size better and I want the main image more prominent. Also with iOS 7 the new edicts from the UI guidelines is for featured images to be entirely edge to edge, so I need to control this rather than having a web page making the layout decisions for me. This is what it looks like on the iOS 7 right now...

Everything else below the photo is an embedded web page, this means links etc will work. But if there are photos in the article then I have to either scale the web page down, which means shrinking text and possibly making things unreadable (and also breaks typographical consistency, which would be a big no no), or I have to manually edit any other images to make sure they aren't over the width of the screen.

This I can do, and I'll have a look at it this weekend, it might not be that big a problem. But as it stands all current versions of the app out there won't handle multiple images nicely. So for the moment there shouldn't be multiple images, but in future versions I can sort it out.

Incidentally this is why I was hoping there was another way to access news articles as ordinary text via JSON feeds instead of parsing raw HTML, which is icky.

Next thing I was going to look at was setting up an RSS feed for the news articles. Would that help your cause?

We've already got one at connachtclan.com/news?format=feed&type=rss

But a feed typically has a headline, brief description and a link to detailed info, in our case the full article. Feeds don't provide the whole article, it'd be too big.

Yes and no ...

Well if the rest of the article is HTML we should be able to make the image scale.

EDIT:
I've updated that img to have the following CSS:
width: 100%; max-width:450px;

That means that it will take up 100% of the width of the containing element if the containing element is less than 450px wide. Let me know if it works or not.

Lookin' fiiiiiiine!

As long as everyone sticks to that CSS style then we're good to go, and I don't have to do any work :)

Didn't realise that was there. Might stick in a link to it. Though maybe RSS is gone out of fashion.
