While they were listing out the team on the big screen, I saw a few players without sponsorship. Would anyone else be interested in contributing to a player being sponsored by the Connacht Clan? George Naoupu was an obvious one who stood out as not having sponsorship.

I believe it used to be something like €500 to sponsor a player. It may be more now but I think its very possible to get 50 people contributing €10 or 25 contributing €20 and it would give the Clan a bit more publicity among supporters.

Maybe a Connacht Clan player sponsorship site similar to the grassroots to greenshirts could be set up by the branch to allow everyone contribute whatever they felt they could and maybe we could sponsor more than one player?

Just an idea.

It's agood idea, and has been mooted before..

But the Branch won't get involved (apart from to accept the cash) it will be down to the Clan to organise themselves...

Maybe use the MyClubFinance facility used on the Clan Registration page...

Great idea man, I would be in for that. Can you see if you can find out more details.
I would leave the contribution amount open to whatever each person wanted to put in. If the amount was €500 then it could be (4 x €50, 10 x €20 and 10 x €10) or any combination as long as the total was reached.

Anyone able to set up a vote on this. If we get enough interest we could maybe deal with it at the AGM

Q1. Would you be willing to contribute to the Clan Sponsorship of one of the players? Y / N

Q2. If Yes, how much would you be willing to contribute;
• €10
• €20
• €50

I've added a poll and moved this into the Clan section

I'm more than happy to follow up with the branch in relation to this if there is enough interest.

Happy to contribute, think it should suggested at €20 each so that as many as possible can contribute. If individuals want to contribute more then that 's fine too of course.

The other thing that struck me was that the Clan probably shouldn't be sponsoring our Blue Chip players for which corporate sponsors will queue up, but rather ensuring that our players yet to make names for themselves are sponsored for the year ahead.

Hey guys, great idea. One problem though is that we have discontinued our association with MCF for now. The reason is that they cost money to employ as a service and we were not making enough use of them to justify the cost.
We just stopped the account a couple of weeks ago!

I have to change the areas of the site that we have them up on and we will have to see about another option for remote supporters to contribute.

Only 13 of the forum members have voted and we have over €300 promised.

There are nearly 400 users of this forum, I know we can reach €500 before the season starts proper.

Remember you can get involved for as little as €10.

Once it can be formalised what the objective is and how the Clan goes about collecting the money it can be promoted. But the objective needs to be formalised first. Because people like to know exactly what their money will be put towards.

I don't think we need a poll to know that if the right proposal is put in place and there's a clear benefit for Connacht people will dip into their pockets, maybe not 400 but enough to make it worthwhile...

I think Borders no 2 made it perfectly clear at the beginning of this topic what the goal for the money was going to be (at least I understood it).
Try to try and raise about €500 so that the Clan could help sponsor one of the players.

Look at the recent examples run by the Branch “Grass roots to Green shirts” which has stalled and fallen pitifully short of its target. This was something which to use your phrase was “formalised what the objective” had lots of time and money spent on it, and to what objective. In the end, it will be lucky to cover its costs.

At lease Borders no 2 is taking the time to suggest ideas. I would rather know if there is sufficient interest in an idea before spending time and effort on it and before the Clan approaches the marketing department of the Branch.

We would look pretty stupid if we approached someone about sponsorship only to find out that there would not be enough support to follow it up. At least this way we will know. If we do not reach pledges of €500 buy simply asking a question, there is absolutely no point in going to the effort of organising the structure, and getting someone to spend the time collecting it for real.

To use a quote from one of my favourite moves of the 70’s, Kelly’s Heroes “Always with the negative waves Moriarty, always with the negative waves”.

Only spotted this thread now, count me in for a couple of quid.

I'd say the only reason George is available is that Bar Eight closed down. I'm sure he'll be snapped up. But should be some opportunity to sponsor a younger player.
Based on a program I looked at from last season, nearly all the academy were available. If there's a choice of players we could have an online poll.

Should be easy enough to collect the money via PayPal or whatever (or good old fashioned handing it over in the Clan Bar).
