I thought it might be a good idea, given some of the feedback over the last few days, if we started a separate thread here where people can:

A ) Introduce themselves to the rest of the Clan members on this forum. While some of us know each other quite well, a lot of people, particularly newcomers, might struggle to identify anyone here in real life. Ultimately I think we'd all prefer if the discussions here could be carried over into the Clan Bar over a pint after a game, and if we could address each other on a first name basis rather than our forum aliases.

B ) Let everyone else know what skills, connections, experience etc. they have, so that if something needs to get done, then we know who to go to. I'm sure there are a lot of people out there who could provide enormous help to the Clan and are more than willing to do so. While the committee is not afraid to ask for assistance when we need it (see the PA thread), in truth we could probably do a better job of making use of the greater membership, so hopefully this will help in that regard. Some of the skillsets which would definitely be of use would be: carpentry, painting & decorating, electrics, PA systems, printing, framing, travel, table quizes and so on, but you never know what might come in handy someday!

So, to get the ball rolling, here's me. My name's Dec, you might spot me in the Clan Bar sometimes and recognise me from my profile photo (I'm the one on the left :P ), by all means feel free to stop me for a chat. I joined the committee at last year's AGM and have helped organise the Christmas party and the player awards/Hall of Fame. I work in IT and also help run/admin this website/forum.

Well done Dec, good start.

Ciaran here, live in Drogheda so not much chance to get to Galway other than match day.

Involved in contacting the opposition supporters club and arranging meeting locations for the travelling Clan Fans

Good idea Dec.

Right, so. I'm Shane. I joined the committee this year also, and am now acting as secretary as Barry had to take a step back due to work. I helped out with the Player of the Year stuff, and the event in Massimos. I'm on the left in my profile pic. I'm usually in the changing room side of the Clan Bar before and after games. I'm a Solicitor in town, so get yer best lawyer jokes ready!

Righteo... My real name is Dennis. Have been helping out since the start. Roped in by Leighton and Pat Carr. I started off a PRO, and then this year wanted to be an OCM. I was asked to step into the role of President when Leighton resigned to work more on a charity which he had founded.
I live and work in Galway. Like Dec I work in an IT role, so am pretty comfortable with the techy stuff. I head to the matches with my brother and my Dad, and a couple of friends (depending on whose in town, not working, and not having to deal with a new baby/mother-in-law). Usually in the Clan Bar for at least one after a match.

Me in the avatar ( :( was pretty attached to The Hulk as my avatar! ). I just got my hair cut and I look about 5 years younger, and I didn't look my 30 years to begin with.

hey all, well im swift4prez. name came from the time this forum was set up, early september when the race was on to be the president of ireland. i suggest swifty so = swift4prez was born.

you can see most of me in my picture with nikora, im 6ft 3 so im easily enough to spot in the clan bar after a game vs dragons when there is about only 10 people in there and some of them would be the people who have posted above.

im not going into to much detail here for people to read and i dont know who they are. im usually very chatty after the games and when i talk to people i usually ask if there on here, if they are i tell them im swift4prez.
i have met about 7 or so people from this site so far.

im currently between jobs for about 3weeks so im happy to help out if needed. painting the bar, general building, moving stuff etc. if you dont ask, u dont get!
oh i can also translate things into or from irish, haha not much help there to ye, more spoken then writhen.
im not from the city and have to go home the odd weekend for the odd job or mothers dinner.
im in the clan bar for at least a pint every game and i stand near the players tunnel, bothermore side at every game.
also im on twitter @lufc2008

It's a little known fact that Pinky is actually my real name (my parents are crusties).
I have no known skills that could possibly be of any use to anybody, including myself, but work in IT so would happily do some work on the website. Also have a H Dip in journalism that I thought would be a good idea to do and then never use so could write some articles (unfortunately ten years on the terrace hasn't imbued me with any great knowledge if the finer points of the game so writing a match report is right out, but I could probably throw together a reasonably legible press release or whatever).
Also happy to help organise things for away trips and visiting fans so hope to get off my arse and do a bit of that this season.

Actually s4p's post reminds me, one area of expertise we might add to the list of skill we need is any kind of ability to speak French or Italian (or to a lesser extent Welsh). Would come in very handy when trying to book a bus or that kind of thing. I can only speak French during the brief window between my 5th and 7th beer. Any earlier, I'm too self conscious and any later I don't know I'm in France.

Hello all.

My name is Éamon and I'm a French speaker. I started out speaking only a small bit, but over the years it got worse and worse and now I speak French almost every day!

(Ok, that wasn't half as funny as it was in my head...)

Howdy all, Garret is my name in the real world.

I've met Diom/Dennis briefly before (kindly sorted me and some mates out for Leinster/Connacht match tickets in the past; thanks!) but afaik haven't had the pleasure/misfortune of meeting any other forum-dwellers in person, mostly due to my shamefully irregular attendance at matches.

My superpowers are 1) decent Italian; 2) passable French; 3) laziness. If any of these can be of use to the Clan, I'd be glad to help out.

My name's Niall in the real world - I live in London and have been over in the UK for 16 years, for my sins (lived in Sheffield previously). That's me on the left there in the photo - although these days I have a beard. I was in The West's Awake, briefly, getting interviewed with me dad and brother in Toulouse.

No known superpowers, but I can get by in French and Irish. I work in mental health, so if anyone needs counselling/carting off in a white jacket after a particularly bad defeat, I'll be more than happy to help out.

I try to get to about 10 Connacht games a season and I would be more than happy to help out if I had prior notice - more than happy mucking out in most things.

Ronan is the name, although most people I've meet over the years at games still seem to call me Sea_point.

Big old bugger (6'4") coming to the end of his playing days, but still rolling out for my local vets side when the body allows.

Galway born, Teens in Dublin and London & SE based for way, way too long.

Some Co.Galway on my Mum's side but both parents are originally from (and have returned to) the South East, although my old fella was heavily involved with rugby in Galway/Connacht Rugby up until the family moved to the big Schmoke. So don't actually get back to Galway that much in recent years..

Used to go to the InterPro's from an early age right up until I left Ireland at 21 in '88, though by then I was Jackeen sounding but still supporting Connacht which was always good for a laugh...

Used to go the London Irish when I was injured and couldn't play, but once the game went Pro and Connacht started playing games over here that was the end of that thankfully when I see what they've become (NotNot's).

First and best memory of a game was vs Northampton Saints back in 1997 (when Gatty was still in charge) and we turned over a near full strength Saints side in their own back yard, massive pub crawl around Northampton with the players and then sleeping on the Station platform (the Midlands in November....Brrrr) waiting for the first train back to London...

Loads of other great memories over the years on the road with Connacht especially in the early days when anything over 20 travelling supporters was a result... Narbonne, Montpellier, Catania, Dax and of course Toulouse more recently...some great evenings (and mornings).

Post "Friends of Connacht Rugby" and the collapse of the original supporters club, I got involved with fellow old skool supporter St Placide (who set it up) in helping with the Supporters Website eventually running it for about six years (moderating the forum and putting up news stories etc...)...

When the Clan finally arrived and the New Website was set up (quickly followed by Rev2.0), after some early glitches I was happy not to have to worry about maintaining the old site. So now I just put the odd crank straight on here from time to time...

I'm a lot quieter in real life when you first meet me, until you get to know me or I have a few beers in me (and then I'm exactly as on here... ).....

background is business, mainly retail. always in the clan stand, don't usually hang out in the bar afterwards as its a good hours drive home, but may hang out there if the chat was good afterwards.

Usually there with my son Shane whos mad into the Rugby. Heading to the HC away games as I reckon that they are waaaayy better value and craic then the International games.

Was sure I'd typed a message for this post the last day...

Anyway, name is Gavin and I'm from Co. Galway, but I live in Limerick - I can literally see Thomond Park from my window, so imagine how fun the drive to Musgrave was last year...

I don't know if there's much I can do skills wise but if there is I'd gladly help out, even if it may have to be from afar. I don't speak French, for one, though when German rugby rises I may be of help. I work as a radio journalist too so not sure if I'm any good hanging lights or banners, but as I say, if I can help I'm here.
