So Joe taking a gamble! Very excited by this back line. Just not too sure how it will go!

What do people think of the Payne & Henshaw combo??

The cynic in me wants to say that Joe knows we can't win this, and an untried center partnership offers another convenient excuse (on top of injuries) for the post match press conference. However, his other options really aren't great in fairness. As I see it he can either bring Madigan in at 12, or put him at 10 and pull Sexton back into center. It'll be interesting to see how they go, but two natural fullbacks do not a midfield make. Anyhow, if we are to lose this, I think it'll be down to the difference between the packs and not so much the backline.

Payne was excellent too.. it's a sacrilege but I think we he have our new D'arcy/BOD pairing

i was surprised how well the 2 of them did today, but they still have to come up against better backlines. I don't think Payne missed a tackle. just a sprained ankle so hopefully if it's not too bad and he will be back for the Australia game

What today showed us if anyone didn't already know it is that we have a top quality coach who we should do everything in our power to hold onto for as long as possible.

Going through the Irish team man for man today it was a middle of the road side, hardly one to strike fear into the opposition but defensively I thought we were superb. Our work at the breakdown for the majority of the game was textbook and when we got the chance to go for the kill in two attacking positions we finished them.

South Africa were a bit one dimensional, made some mistakes and were breathtakingly arrogant at times but everyone in the Irish setup knew their job. When South Africa got it back to 13-10 we would have crumbled a couple of years ago but we regathered ourself, got 3 points, got the break of the sin bin and killed the game so we could all relax for the last few minutes.

There are still issues for Ireland to address but look at how many of these players have been seamlessly brought into the Irish team and made look like they were there forever. Lets not forget SA should have been finely tuned for this one while Ireland looked to get up to speed but it looked like Ireland were the team who had a series of matches behind them.

We mightn't have the quality to beat opponents like that on a regular basis but while Eddie O'Sullivan and Declan Kidney made their contributions, Schmidt is by a country mile the best thing to happen rugby in Ireland in a long time.

What also encourages me long term is that Schmidt is looking at the wider picture of linking the provinces and the Irish team. Others will come sniffing around for him before long. More than any single player, holding on to Schmidt would be seismic for rugby in this country.

The players have full confidence in Schmidt and the undercurrent of provincial bull is being put to one side. Everyone is just determined to play for the team.

Its great so see today's performance. I still think this is a far from vintage Irish side (even with the absentees back) but under Schmidt more good days are possible.

Give him whatever amount he wants to stay!

However, I reckon he will do what he thinks is best for his family. So every single person in Ireland has to step up and make his whole family want to stay here!

Kieran and Rodney on the bench for the game against Georgia. Give them both a chance to shine, especially Kieran.

Had hoped that Marmion would start. Supposed Joe needed some experience in there, with 13 changes.
Rodney, I'm sorry, but is only there due to injuries. He's not yet International standard

Fair enough I think really. Bit disappointed to see Cave starting, nothing against him but looking towards potential options for the World Cup he isn't quite international standard imo.

Kilcoyne, Foley, Ryan and O'Donnell deserve a shot. I'd have gone with Marmion but can see why he's started with Reddan. Would hope the two lads would get at least 25-30 minutes to put themselves forward. Hopefully they'll get a decent look at Olding also.

Ireland team to play Georgia: 15 Felix Jones, 14 Craig Gilroy, 13 Darren Cave, 12 Gordon D’Arcy, 11 Simon Zebo, 10 Ian Madigan, 9 Eoin Reddan (captain), 1 Dave Kilcoyne, 2 Richardt Strauss, 3 Mike Ross, 4 Dave Foley, 5 Mike McCarthy, 6 Dominic Ryan, 7 Tommy O’Donnell, 8 Robbie Diack.
Replacements: 16 Sean Cronin, 17 Jack McGrath, 18 Rodney Ah You, 19 Devin Toner, 20 Robin Copeland, 21 Kieran Marmion, 22 Ian Keatley, 23 Stuart Olding.

49-7 for Ire

Still think Reddan is ahead of Marmion for the moment (Marm was great for passes and in openplay, but needs to work his composure behind the rucks)
Rodney played 24 minutes, not perfect, but still deserve the bench against Australia in my humble opinion

That's impossible to know. Marmion can't be judged on the last 17 minutes of a test match already won by the time he came on. The blocked box kick was a minor error, other than that ge was faultless. Against Reddan he was at fault defensively for the Georgian try, poor/no attempt at a tackle...

He should have started the match, because there was absolutely nothing to learn from starting with Reddan and if anything Reddan is never going to be starting Irish No.9 again in the big tests...

Rodney did well today, solid scrum and looked really hungry to get on the ball and made a "Dave" sized impression in the Georgian defensive line....

Redden was here as experienced Captain today
Marmion conceeding a blockdown wasn't the only reason I said this, I just felt he generally wasn't at ease and calm in the rucks. I really like him, no issue with this, I just see him as n°2 after the RWC, for the Irish general interest... Don't get angry, it's a sacrilege to say that here, I know
For Rodney, he was shaked at scrumtime, not dominated but not dominant
Conceded a silly silly pen for a high tackle
Not efficient enough at the breakdown
But so impressive with ball in hands

Cronin Foley and Olding are the 3 who will push very hard to get the nod in 2015
D'arcy is behind Payne Olding and Henshaw now, not the 1st time we notice it

I was impressed by Jones and Gilroy. Thought zebo made poor decisions.

Very disappoinyed by Cave.

Olding looked exciting when he came on.

Regards scrum half. I cannot see marmion knocking off reddan as 2nd choice just yet
