You'd think that Cooneys kicking game would've given him the edge over McGrath allright, it's not like we've a hugely long list of top quality kickers. From the way things are looking cooney might not even be going on the plane! It's a good complaint to have, 4 international quality scrum halfs in each province, I suppose.

Cooney has already been released back yo ulster so he definitely wont be on the plane unless Marmion and McGrath are injured.

Carty thanking his lucky stars he didn't get the start today I'd say, can't imagine Beirne has done anything but move himself further down the ladder there.

Really hard game to watch, and really hard game to look back on. Record score, both against England and under Joe.

See a lot of articles and talk about Rory being the root cause of the lineout troubles, which I'm not sure I can agree with. Someone more versed in the technacaliteis of lineouts can correct me, but looked as if there was a combination of bad throws, bad moves in the lineout, and bad luck in some marginal lineouts. Cronin didn't improve things when he came on, and while I think SC can probably add more physicality to the game, you can't discount Rorys role as a leader of the team.

Stockdale was a defensive liability, very disappointed. He adds so much to the game from attack, but I'd count three tries that came from him being out of position.

Think Jack did ok when he came on, very hard to excel when you're coming into that athmosphere. His kicking percentages won't help him, one of the kicks was straightforward enough, but he was definately better from play than Byrne.

Murray was decent in the first half, can't disagree with decision to take him off (read that Joe didn't want him to go back on after the HIA, but there was a miscommunication). You'd think KM would've brought a bit of pace back into the game, but who knows in a game like that?

Bundee was good. Great try from him, really shows what he can do. You've got to think that Joe is going to go with himself and Robbie at centre?

Looks like Cian Healy only has a minor sprain, which is great. Would hate to lose him for the WC, and would be gutting for him to go out injuried again.

Overall team was shocking defensively. Slipped off some insane tackles, but even worse were the holes left in defence. Doesn't help that England were very obviously up to this and hitting their stride after the Welsh games, while we are still knocking some rust off.

Has to get better from this. Sure can't get much lower!!

Bundee had one or two poor defensive reads (who didn't)

Of course he's one of the first names people are calling for to be dropped despite being one of the very few players to show anything going forward

Looks like Jack and Marmion to start this weekend, Sexton on the bench, with Sexton starting the game the week after.

Real chance for Jack and Kieran to put their hand up - got to think that the 2nd choice half back pairing will start at least some of the pool games, don't think they;ll want to risk Murray and Sexton (defo not Sexton) against Russia or Samoa.

IRELAND TEAM: Will Addison; Andrew Conway, Chris Farrell, Bundee Aki, Jacob Stockdale; Jack Carty, Kieran Marmion; Dave Kilcoyne, Niall Scannell, John Ryan; James Ryan, Iain Henderson; Tadhg Beirne, Peter O'Mahony (capt), Jack Conan.

Replacements: Andrew Porter, Rory Best, Tadhg Furlong, Devin Toner, Jordi Murphy, Luke McGrath, Ross Byrne, Garry Ringrose.

Interesting selection. Interesting to see if Addison can preform, first game in a few months. Three Connacht lads starting, great opportuinity for them all - but especially for Jack and Kieran to show some what they're like playing together. I think this is the first time they'll play serious minutes together for Ireland?

not sure what to make of farrell and bundee midfield. with henshaw still to come back how many centres do we think he'll bring?

If addison plays well then he's straight into the 31 for me, obvious utility option like that is gold dust in a world cup.

Pretty sure Bundee, Henshaw and Ringrose are certs for the squad. Farrell IMO is playing for a spot. It's 2 from Farrell, Addison, Larmour and Conway.

Our three lads did very very well today, I think. Marmion was sharp as anything, Bundee was a big bullying presence. MOTM award for Jack, and well deserved, he was getting in behind their line a good bit in the first half, really good steps and passed on. Very impressed.

Think our men have definately played themselves onto the plane (not that Bundee or KM were in much doubt, I think).

Still think overall preformance in the second half was a touch suspect. We seemed to creak when the 'first' team came on. Pratchell dragged them single handedly back into the match, to be fair.

Ruaidhrí O'Connor in today's Independent is saying that KM to be omitted. Find that hard to fathom.

Yeah, the 42.ie are reporting the same, and also that Toner is going to be staying home.

I really cannot see how Marmion is being left at home (if true). Mind boggling really. He's played so well in the chances he's been given, always under pressure and always preformed. I could see it if Cooney was going, but looks like McGrath and Murray getting the nod.

So strange. We'll just have to wait and see.

I'd be seriously pi**ed off if I was Marmion.
Great news for Carty though

If this is true it's a joke!!! Marmion is a far superior 9 over McGrath. Played way way better in the Irish jersey. Cannot understand why he'd go with McGrath over Marmion!!
Thought Marms had earned Joes trust!!! Hopefully it's just rumors!!!!

Hey. They laughed at Louis Armstrong when he said he was gonna go to the moon. Now he’s up there, laughing at them.

I'm probably drinking from a half full glass, but this has happened before with Marmion vs McGrath.
Joe has supported Marmion a lot over the years, and he has never been let down by him. I'm hoping that this is a case of the media making presumptions, and being wrong.

I do find it strange, that the squad gets submitted to World Rugby today, but it's not being announced until the weekend.
