So he simply is a junior addition to a professional team, as I see it.

He's done a lot more at the age of 22 than most props have tbh. Do you know how many games Denis was starting at 22? Or Jack McGrath? Mako Vunipola? Not as many as this guy, and they were doing it in what are generally accepted to be "easier" leagues for props.

Because he is NIQ not project AFAIK, and we are filled with quality for flanker

1) Heenan
2) Connoly
3) McKeon
4) Dawai (played 7 last week)
5) Masterson, if needed.

But no more than these indications for my part

How is he NIQ? Heenan and Connolly are the only natural 7s there and Connolly barely plays, the problem is we have 2 many 6s

Fox-Matauma is Not Irish Qualified, well, because he's not Irish, and doesn't qualify under residency. Am I missing something here?

What I meant is how is he not a project? I wasn't bothered being pedantic and getting into the distinction between Not Irish Qualified and Not Irish Eligible

Should have asked how he isn't a project player then.

I just did. This is so pointless

I think he's an niq in that he can qualify for Ireland after 3 years but I don't think he was brought in with an eye on him starting for Ireland one day in the strict project player srnse

I contacted Murray, because I was so fed up trying to understand provincial finances over other finances. So I learnt one thing. Coaching staff is beyond provinces. This is dealt with by IRFU. So Connacht, as any other province, can pay anything for coaching staff. Its when it comes to players things change. But it was interesting to learn that there is no limits on wages for coaching staff, no matter what province,.

Funding of players is a total different ballgame but the IRFU will pay for the management team

Thanks for the answer. I've never heard of the IRFU turning down a project player based on ability, Louis Ludik got a new contract when he was in the same situation and he's older and I would say even less likely to play for Ireland www.irishtimes.com/sport/rugby/louis-lud...ith-ulster-1.2835361

Anyway, time will tell

Bazzo, I want to see his ability before I comment further. I just did say his history is not hugely impressive and he is just a kid and I want a solid Denis Buckley backup and I am not sure that he is that. He looks like a third or fourth option signing which to me is a bit pointless as we don't have a second option these days

I'd say he'll be kept, but he's 3rd choice for me behind Heenan and McKeown on par with Connolly. On the other hand He has a poor injury record so I wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't kept on.

I'd like to see a backrow of SOB 2.0 Masterson and Heenan for a game

Soroka played in AIL today
Would love to see him and McCoy on the bench in Glasgow and afterward. To see once for all if they bring better solutions than Cooney/Loughney to be 3rd choices next season.

Hoping for an almost clean bill of health tomorrow followed by a signing announcement this week.

Has anyone any idea who might come into the academy next year?

Matthew Burke and Sean Masterson are the only guys who made Ireland u20s so you'd have to imagine they'd be two.

We've no outhalf in the academy so maybe Morgan Codyre or Luke Carty would be options considering they're both playing regular AIL already.

Will Carolan nab a few u20s from other provinces? Caelan Doris is a Mayo man but he rejected us last year so probably not realistic. Would Ronan Kelleher fancy joining his brother in Galway?

There were 45 french players turfed out out a job today, would be foolish not to be sniffing around Paris for a few players.

Courage is knowing what lies on the other side and still opening the door.

Doris has been fabulous has the Heaslip thing of looking like he's jogging around the park, easily our player of the tournament and with another year at u20 as well I believe. He can pick where he goes.
Kelleher is with UCD, I'd guess that it's a harder sell to lads that are studying there already to head West for an Academy contract...

Really disappointing result for the U-20's, no way they should have conceded 40 against that Welsh side.
Better side lost, but lack of concentration in defence really hurt Ireland...

Yes he's very good and yes he's u19 and yes he definitely can pick where he goes. My only hope is that he sees Heaslip, Conan, Murphy, Timmins, and Deegan ahead of him at Leinster, and sees that he could probably play for Connacht next season.. Yeah that's the problem with a lot of the young Leinster guys and a big part of the reason Porter rejected Munster I believe. I wonder do we have any sort of arrangement for lads to transfer straight into NUIG if the course is compatible.

Didn't see much of the game but I heard the defensive organisation was poor alright. It's crazy that we had no Ireland u19s last year and only 3 u20s this year. Hopefully we have a good few lads in this years u19s, which is being announced soon

Bernard Jackman gone from Grenoble. Would he be worth a punt in some position for us ? Would definitely help the transition process if he was available now to come in and prepare for Keane. Would Keane want him ?

I think it's unlikely. Duffy is the only unchanged member of coaching staff remaining at the minute and if KK wanted change there surely he'd bring in Neil Barnes who is the current forwards coach at Chiefs and likely departing at the end of the season along with Strawbridge and KK.

I don't think it's beyond imagination that we end up with two forwards coaches in Barnes and Duffy in the end anyway, but 3?

He was originally hired at Grenoble as "skills and forwards coach." We will hopefully be hiring a new skills coach...
