Many LoI teams post highlights of their matches on YouTube after the game is over... Given that all of the RaboDirect games are filmed, why is that not the case for Connacht?  Would love to watch highlights, say, of the win in Italy this year or the games at the Sportsground.  It's something we can do when game is on TV, obviously, but I was referring to the other games really.  Someone said recently (I think) that the Ospreys games highlights were on S4C.  Again, surely there should be an initiative by the teams/league itself to do this

It'll come down to rights of course, most of the main UK and Irish broadcasters have on demand services (RTE Player, S4C Clic, BBCi Player etc..) where you can either watch full or edited match highlights.

There's no value to them in seeing their stuff broadcast on You Tube, that only generates cash for You Tube and their advertisers..

I'd imagine it's not possible because Connacht can't upload highlights because they don't own the rights. RTE and TG4 would have to do it. The LoI matches aren't subject to broadcasting legalities.

On the official Pro12 site they have video hightlights, but it's not for every match.

It doesn't necessarily have to be on YouTube per se, but the highlights should be online.  If you go to the Connacht TV page on RaboDirect Pro12 site, the latest video is a season preview, even though we know games since then have been filmed and televised.  If the BBC can offer highlights of every League Two rugby match on their site, and if the league can put highlights on their site (which they can, because they have done) then surely a better effort needs to be put in place to make it happen for every game.

They have, as do RTE, but I'm on about the games that aren't broadcast as much as the others.

So what you're asking for is footage of games that aren't covered by TV live or for highlights..?? For Conancht to do it for their own games would probably cost a fair amount (equipment and manpower)..

You may have to wait for some enterprising person to launch Connacht Rugby TV (I'd sign up if anyone's thinking of it)....  ;D

Not sure if they still do it, but I think Connacht used to film the non televised home games for video analysis purposes. They used a single camera from the main stand, so quality might not be the best, but it might be worthwhile making the footage available on the website. I suspect there are legal issues which would stop it though.

Why would there be legal issues if a match was put onto youtube or some other form like a link after the match was over?

Putting the match on live and not paying the rights for it fine, but to post up a link to show a match the next day surely can't be illegal. can it?

Because the Pro12 own the rights to the games and they will only want those who paid to be allowed to distribute it to be able to do it.

Diom is right, but we've seen Pro12 put highlights on their site already.  The Scarlets and Munster games from the weekend just gone are up there now.  Connacht DO video their games - I saw a cameraman on the greyhound stand side at the Dragons game a couple of weeks back.  What I would love to see is that video, or a different one, a one camera job with highlights up a couple of days after the game if needed.  The cost, for a league of that size, is minimal on the grander scheme of things.  There doesn't even need to be commentary on them.
